A Swedish massage is the classic massage used at most spas when a client is looking primarily to relax and decompress. Swedish massage uses five types of flowing strokes, including sliding or gliding, kneading, rhythmic tapping, cross-fiber strokes, and shaking or vibration, to relax the superficial layers of muscle tissue. The benefits of Swedish massage include reduction of pain and joint stiffness, enhancing circulation and lyphatic flow, as well as reducing blood pressure (interestingly, for the therapist as well as the client). In addition to the classic Swedish massage strokes, most of our therapist use additional techniques often associated with accupressure massage, shiatsu massage, myo-fascial release, and sports therapy massage, when needed to assist the client with specific therapeutic issues that need to be addressed.
